4½p Jersey Arms & Royal Mace plate 1A–1A–1A–1A–1A–1A block x 4 on uncoated paper. The unique proving piece affected by the error with sheet number '15142' in the margin. Very scarce. Just one sheet of 50 was affected. Fresh and fine. Mint never hinged. Offered with two normal plate blocks x 4 numbered '15141' and '15143' respectively. SG49ab; SC107var; JEY98a
Note: the error, which occurred on sheet number 15142, was discovered by wholesale dealer G Cleveland in 1987 while checking stock. Compared to normal, the paper is translucent and the image dull and mottled. Remaining stock, including sheets numbered 15141 and 15143 were found to be normal. The error was first reported in David Aggersberg's Catalogue Column in the August 1987 edition of Gibbons Stamp Monthly
