John Alexander Crosby

John Alexander Crosby (1925-2016) was born in Toronto and studied forestry before his interest in painting birds landed him a job at the National Museum of Canada. His illustrations adorn the Birds of Canada reference book published in 1966 and a series of banknotes introduced in 1986. His Canada stamp designs, oddly bereft of birds, include the 1953 Polar Bear and 1968 Narwhal.
