Red Cross Centenary set on illustrated unaddressed cover with PITCAIRN ISLAND, POST OFFICE circular cancel dated 9 DE 63, the first day of issue. Poignantly signed 'Evelyn Christian', the island nurse, in pencil on the reverse. Very scarce thus. Fresh and fine. SG34/5; SC36/7
Note: Evelyn Rachel Christan (née Totenhofer) was born in 1884 in Tasmania, Australia. She went to Pitcairn Island in 1944 as a trained nurse, eventually marrying Leonard Elwyn Christian. She died 12 May 1977 on Pitcairn Island
